Student Chapter

UNLV Mentors AGC Las Vegas members serve as mentors for the members of the AGC student chapter at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Student chapter members are frequent winners of AGC of America scholarships and have taken active roles in community service, campus activities and professional development opportunities. AGC members are active on the university’s industry advisory board, which guides curriculum, provides outside educational activities and raises funds for UNLV’s Construction Management department. Construction Career Day

Nevada’s Construction Career Day Nevada ’s second Construction Career Day, slated for October 15, 2010, at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is expected to show more than 700 high school students the challenges and earning potential the construction industry has to offer. Major general and subcontractors, labor unions, higher education, developers and building departments will support the biennial Construction Career Day with some 60 interactive workshops, 60 heavy equipment displays, breakout classes and more. Michael T. Martin Scholarship

THE AWARD AGC will award a $12,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from a high school located within Clark, Nye, Esmeralda or Lincoln counties. AGC’s Scholarship Committee will review all applications received by deadline and select the student who exemplifies leadership, integrity, creativity, dedication and studiousness along with a desire to enter a career in construction. Scholarship recipient must attend eight consecutive semesters at an accredited four-year college or university beginning the fall after high school graduation. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of scholarship monies. The AGC scholarship board may waive this requirement should extenuating circumstances warrant. …

Building Jobs Coalition

An essential element of Nevada’s ability to recover is needed investment in the state’s roads and highways; its schools and universities; its water, sewer and flood control infrastructure; and its hospitals, prisons and other government facilities. It is vitally important that Nevada not only stop the diversion of money away from these programs but also find ways to accelerate their construction.
